Pyrocumulonimbus clouds—massive thunderheads formed by wildfire heat—are making wildfires more dangerous. They generate lightning and strong winds that spread flames, while injecting smoke into the upper atmosphere. As wildfires intensify with climate change, these fiery clouds are becoming more frequent and destructive.
Despite the “business as usual” attitude of most of the world’s
