About a week before the US-Israeli military attack on Iran, which has already involved several nations, Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, stated in an interview with the BBC, that World War III had already started.

Zelensky’s comments were focussed on the geopolitical situation centred around Ukraine, and its wider implications, but in a way, what is happening in the Middle East is not unrelated to the momentum of this fracturing of world order, which is becoming more dangerous with every new development. International Law meant something, and it still does, but its ruthless dismantling by leaders such as Trump, Putin and Netanyahu is leaving the global order increasingly exposed.

China is showing remarkable restraint by not jumping on the bandwagon, but for how long? Will it stand idly by as its allies, like Venezuela, Cuba and now Iran are being targeted by a United States, which is becoming increasingly hostile and imperialistic?

Or will it decide to display its show of strength in its own sphere by invading Taiwan? Every player “stands upon the edge of a knife. Stray but a little and it will fail, to the ruin of all”, to quote Galadriel’s advice in the Lord of the Rings.

There are already about a dozen countries involved in this new conflict, including Cyprus and for now, the situation is only getting worse.

Putin is evil, but Trump and Netanyahu are both evil and unhinged, with their criminal past spurring their destructive frenzy. Only drastic action can slam the breaks on this out-of-control train heading toward a cliff and the United Nations is best placed to do this.

The United Nations should stick its neck out and expel any country that is breaking international law. Of course, this could spell the end of the United Nations as we know it, especially seeing as it is already going through a huge financial crisis, but at the very least, the move will put an end to the charade and force nations back to the drawing board. Failing that, we can watch and wait as our future remains in the hands of those who seem bent on the Apocalypse.
