Wanted:

We are looking for collaborators on a new book on the United Nations. Adrian Liberto will coordinate the work and will be one of the contributors. You could help in a number of ways, such as:

  1. Writing one or more chapters
  2. Supporting authors with research
  3. Proofreading
  4. Cover design
  5. Marketing
  6. Translating
  7. Assisting with publication

The book will focus on the weaknesses that severely limit the potential of the United Nations. It will also offer a viable alternative. The analysis could be structured as follows, although this is currently open for discussion:

  1. Introduction: an overview of the achievements and failures of the UN
  2. Background to the founding of the UN and how is still rooted in the mid-1940s:
    • Language
    • Structure
  3. The shortcomings of the six organs:
    • The General Assembly
    • The Security Council
    • The Economic and Social Council
    • The Trusteeship Council
    • The International Court of Justice
    • The Secretariat (including the Secretary General)
  4. Problems with specialised agencies and affiliated organisations
  5. Funding issues
  6. Limited and flouted founding principles
  7. Flawed and ignored resolutions
  8. Failed and detrimental operations
  9. Undermined by its most powerful members
  10. Unable to reform despite the obvious need to
  11. A viable alternative
  12. Conclusion

The intention is for the book to be initially published as an e-book by Amazon, with further options to be considered at a later stage. Royalties will go towards the funding of UN-aligned activities, the accounting of which will be completely transparent.

Take ownership of UN-aligned

Unlike most organisations, UN-aligned is, primarily, its members. We are the New United Nations and though just a drop in the ocean, for now, we will carry on growing until we will become a force to be reckoned with!

The more of us there are, the more chance we have of achieving our aims. Help us by promoting membership to you friends or to people you think have similar values. If every member added another, membership would snowball and we would be unstoppable!

We also need active members: people who roll up their sleeves and contribute to the work of the organisation. Some already have, for instance, by writing articles for The Gordian, or offering to help with proofreading.

No matter what you can do, we want you. Write to us with your talents and we’ll make it work.

The social ills equation… Minus inevitability

“Disaster… it could happen to anyone.” Think about it too much and you will go mad: that endless list of slings and arrows. Yes, it could happen to anyone, but it is best to plod along as though it could never happen to us. Perhaps they deserved it. Karma. Their suffering is like a parallel universe: it need never touch us…

In this issue of The Gordian, we cover various social issues ranging from rough sleeping to poverty.

This issue contains exclusive reports by, our literary editor, Alex Liberto, and other UN-aligned members, namely Jay DavisandCarla Pietrobattista. The editors are Adrian Liberto and Ariana Yekrangi.
